The Giving Tree ☀
I was always told, that a picture was worth a thousand words, but I never fully understood the meaning behind that saying until I started photography. Now I understand that a picture can define us, and describe us. The picture to the left is from Spring Break 2012, taken in Florida. On the beach, there was this tree, and on it people carved their names into the trunk, and even on the leaves. It seems cruel to deface a tree like that, but I learned a lot from the tree. People had written short stories on the tree, and the classic heart with the two initials in the middle. This couple saw me looking at the tree, and they pointed to a carving dated back to 2001, when they first meet. They told me a story of how there first date was at this beach, and they ended up getting married here. On the first date, they had carved their initials onto the tree, and I got to see their initials. It was so interesting to see how one tree, could mean so much to someone. I took this picture because the tree was so beautiful and simple, and to me, the leaves on the ground represent all of the loves that didn't work out, while a few loves hung on. I ended up writing my initials on the tree, quite hypocritical considering I thought it was wrong to deface a tree like that. I am excited to see if my initials are still on the tree next year, and I wonder if I will find my prince charming...one day ☀
